Gabe’s and The Yacht Club will host an Iowa City Music Showcase beginning at Gabe’s at 7 p.m. this Saturday, presented by the Iowa City Music Scene… […]
Brighton MA will head to Iowa City this Saturday for a show alongside Simpleton and City Folk at the Yacht Club. The group has passed through Iowa City a few times previous and are official veterans of the Mission Creek Festival, but even longtime fans have something new to look forward to this weekend.
The Quick & Easy Boys are an addictive power pop trio based out of Portland, Oregon, which is terribly far away. Fortunately, the group will be visiting Iowa City on Thursday, November 7 to put on a show alongside Little Legend and Robby Schiller at the Yacht Club (considerably closer). […]
Over the last decade or so, Brooklyn-based musician Eliot Lipp has been creating and releasing tracks from a number of ‘home bases.’ Before ending up in Brooklyn — where he currently resides — the electronic music artist spent time honing his craft in Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco to name a few, not to mention his penchant for touring internationally. […]
The intricately textured, post-rock and electronic music of El Ten Eleven sounds like it is either made by a 10-piece band or a single nerd with a laptop, but it is in fact performed by duo Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty.
Even if you don’t recognize the name, you may have come across El Ten Eleven’s music on NPR’s “All Things Considered” or the PBS design documentaries “Helvetica,” “Objectified” and “Urbanized”–all three of which were scored by Dunn and featured tracks by El Ten Eleven. […]
Mexico’s counter-culture movement during the 1960’s fostered some amazing, though not very well known in the U.S., psychedelic and garage rock bands. As anyone familiar with the likes of Los Dug Dugs, Los Shakes or The Spiders can attest, these bands knew how to combine American rock and roll with a raw energy and weirdness that was all their own. Following in this tradition comes Mexico City’s The Risin’ Sun, performing at the Yacht Club on August 20. […]
Cedar Falls indie-rock group John June Year is scheduled to play the Yacht Club today at 10:00 p.m. Since forming just over a year ago, they’ve released an EP titled Translations, and a pair of singles titled Lounge Lizard, and Dangerous Range (singles are still a thing!). Though they’ve put in a lot of studio […]
If you’re a fan of comedy, or a night owl with three bucks to spare on a Monday night, consider checking out the Catacombs Of Comedy Showcase at the Yacht Club. I was able to make it down to the weekly open mic for the first time this week and had a blast. With the […]

Pete Swanson was one half of the experimental electronic music band Yellow Swans, who made their mark as extremely ambitious musicians, and whose performances balanced improvisation, chaotically complex sound treatment and emotionally affecting harmonic progression. […]
The saga continues…the town is both more weary and more energetic than it has been since, well, last year’s Mission Creek. I keep bumping into the same folks at all the different venues, and we have a good laugh about how we are all very tired, yet totally unwilling to surrender before the last band […]
