IHearIC is lovely. In a nutshell, it’s an evening variety hour at the Englert highlighting local talent of all sorts. I was in attendance last week was charmed by the intimate setting – the audience sitting at candlelit bistro tables only feet from the performers showcased. This particular show featured students of the University’s school […]

Show Photos: Tyvek, Solid Attitude, Non Prayer, Slut River @ the Wherehouse – 1/28
I never considered myself a punk fan until I started spending time at the Wherehouse. There has been one great punk show after another, and I’ve come to love the noises that blare from the massive speakers that usually accompany hardcore bands. Last Friday I reluctantly  dragged myself out into the cold and down to the Wherehouse. I am always reluctant when it’s below 50 degrees, but I always manage to do it because these shows are always so damn good.
Show Photos: Santafest at the Wherehouse, 18 Bands, One Night – 12/18
I spent somewhere between 9 and 10 hours at the Wherehouse yesterday for their holiday art and music extravaganza. I showed up for the potluck at 5pm and finally called it a night after the last band played which was sometime after 2am, but I don’t remember exactly what time it was… There was something […]
Show Photos: Englert Theater's Festival of Carols – 12/16
Last night the Englert Theater held their annual Festival of Carols. This free, family-friendly show drew a full theater of folks eager to kick their holiday spirit into high gear. This event was one of the most diverse I’ve seen here, in relation to age. Families with kids, college students, couples and seniors sat side […]
Show Photos: Langhorne Slim, Brooks Strause & the Gory Details, Ryan Lauder @ the Blue Moose – 12/10
My blogging catch up frenzy continues…this time with a show from last week instead of digging back into last month. Bear with me, as I am obsessively posting things before the sun has begun to rise. These three acts were well worth venturing out into a spitting wintery evening to get to the Blue Moose. […]
Show Photos: Olivia Rose Muzzy, Stephanie Rearick, Alex Body @ the Mill – 11/13
I managed to pull a double show night, hurrying my tail through the cold of the Ped Mall between sets to shoot this lovely show at the Mill, while simultaneously shooting a show at Gabe’s (Featuring Coyote Grace and Sam Knutson — see those photos here). Not to toot my own horn, but I didn’t […]
Show Preview: S. Carey at The Mill, Dec. 10
From the beginning, S. Carey has been known for being ostentatious – this is most noted by his work with Bon Iver. Upon hearing that Justin Vernon was looking to expand his one-man project into a full band, S. Carey spent two weeks dissecting For Emma, Forever Ago in his bedroom. He learned the drum and vocal parts; then after approaching Vernon at a show and briefly jamming with him, he was hired on the spot.
Show Preview: Times New Viking, November 30th
Times New Viking w/ Solid Attitude | 9 PM | The Mill | $8, 21+ On the 30th of November, the Mill will be receiving a rather noisy guest in the form of Times New Viking. Hailing from Columbus, OH, the trio has been burning the country down for the past few years, playing their […]
Show Photos: "Name Crisis", Coyote Grace, Sam Knutson – 11/13
I joined some friends at Gabe’s for a show I didn’t really know much about and I learned to always trust these particular friends’ taste in music. This was a great show (as so many of them are). Name Crisis is called such because they haven’t yet picked a name, but they have certainly solidified […]
Show Photos: Mumford's/Sam Locke Ward and the Boo Hoos 7" release party 11/12
I have a bunch of photos to crank out, so I have to go skimpy on my write-ups for now. I rarely photograph shows that I think won’t be very good, so you can bet that all of these bands are worth checking out, if you’re not already familiar with them. I am counting on […]
Show Preview: Wolf Parade at the Englert, Nov. 18
Wolf Parade conquers the stereotype of a super-group. While most eventually suffer from clashing egos, fall into an indistinct sound, or just become bad, Wolf Parade has managed to consistently put out a sound that is definitely their own. The creative minds of its members are each represented and fleshed out, sonically eliminating the ego problem.

Please enjoy these videos and feel free to pass them around, but first, giving creds! Camera: Robert Nelson Interview: Craig Eley Engineer: Andrew Ingersoll Editing: […]
