Open letter to UI President Bruce Harreld: End coal burning at the UI power plant immediately

We are writing to you as concerned high school climate strikers, University of Iowa students, alumni, staff and Iowa City and area residents. Last week, the University of California joined 7,000 other colleges and universities in committing to climate emergency plans. These institutions plan to reach carbon-neutral status by 2025. University of California President Janet Napolitano recognized “the need for a drastic societal shift to combat the growing threat of climate change.”

I am so tired of whiners. Johnny’s mom doesn’t make him clean the bathroom, why should I? Suzie’s mom doesn’t make her take out the trash, why should I? China and India don’t clean up all their air, water and food problems, why should the U.S.A.? South Carolina doesn’t clean up all their contaminated rivers, why should Iowa?

Letter to the editor: Why are you not antifa?

The recent resignation of adjunct professor Jeff Klinzman from Kirkwood Community College has focused attention on the activist group antifa. On Aug. 22, KCRG’s Jeff Scheinblum aired an investigative report, digging up comments by Klinzman on Facebook that some people might find offensive, but the headline was Klinzman’s claim that he was antifa.
