Iowa City Police Department is part of program that shares surveillance videos from Ring doorbells

On Wednesday, Ring — a company that sells doorbells outfitted with security cameras, saving footage to users’ smartphones — released a map showing the 405 police departments it has partnered with in a video-sharing program. In Iowa, only two departments have joined the program: the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa City Police Department.

Felony charges filed against woman who shot ICPD officer with BB gun

On Tuesday night, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) identified 25-year-old Cierra Lewis as the person who shot an Iowa City Police Department officer multiple times with a BB gun on Monday. Lewis has been charged with assault with a weapon on a peace officer and willfully causing a serious injury, according to a written statement from the DCI. Both offenses are felonies.

Johnson County Attorney rules ICPD officers were justified in shooting suspect

The shooting of a criminal suspect by two Iowa City Police Department officers last month was justified, Johnson County Attorney Janet Lyness announced on Friday. ICPD Officer Alex Stricker and ICPD Officer Travis Neeld “acted with reasonable force in defending themselves and others,” when they discharged their weapons on May 9, striking Michael Cintron-Caceres, according to a statement from the county attorney’s office.

Cars blocking street sweeping routes in downtown Iowa City will be towed starting at 2 a.m. Friday
