Album Review: Distant Train – Congratulations on Your Suicide
Distant Trains is the solo project of Iowa musician Chuck Hoffman, who plays in Des Moines band Why Make Clocks, among other varied musical projects around the state. Web developer by day, rock and roll animal by night, Chuck is the sort of musician who keeps the Iowa rock scene exciting: he knows everyone, has been in a band with almost everyone, and he’ll be down front at your show grinning and head-nodding, even if he has to work in the morning.

I am a sucker for a road trip, even just a little one, so it took no convincing to get me to trek to the Mews for Iowa City’s Lonelyhearts. They opened for Ames’ much-talked-about band, the Poison Control Center, which I regret I didn’t get to hear play. As always, I had my camera in tow and fired off a few shots of the always-enjoyable Lonelyhearts.
System and Station, Modern Day Satire live at Gabe's (VIDEO)

Portland’s System and Station and the more local rock group Modern Day Satire–based in Des Moines–came by Gabe’s this weekend to play us some music. The show was a nice cherry on top of an otherwise action-packed Iowa City weekend, of which the Iowa City Pride Parade and Festival was the centerpiece, and we have plenty of video for you to sink your teeth into.
