Next week, Brucemore opens its summer classic, Picnic, and it promises to be an outdoor theater experience that offers the community an opportunity to be part of the show. Since 1996, Brucemore has staged its summer show against a natural amphitheater that offers the audience not only a performance but an unique interactive experience.

CR PrideFest plans for second year in NewBo
As many as 7,000 people are expected at Cedar Rapids PrideFest this Saturday, in addition to almost 100 vendor booths including animals rescue groups, churches and theaters. Attendees can look forward to a drag show, live music, political speakers — including Cedar Rapids Mayor Brad Hart — and a performance by the Eastern Iowa Circus Collective.

On the 10th anniversary of the 2008 flood, Cedar Rapids artist Mel Andringa looks back to look forward
In 2008, he had been considering retirement. Now, he’s curating two major shows, both opening June 7. One is of his own post-flood work (running through July), and will be held at CSPS Hall, the renovated New Bo building that houses his studio and Legion Arts, both of which suffered great losses due to the flood. The other (running through June 16) is a look back at the 2x2xU exhibit that was hanging all around New Bo when the flood came through.

Members of Modest Mouse never quite in sync at McGrath
Brock’s banjo work was enjoyable as always, and the trademark discordant pep of the guitars reminded the audience that they were, indeed, watching Modest Mouse. That said, sometimes the watching proved challenging.
