On the table: Laid-back libations
Sticking with the theme of last month’s column, party preparation, let’s bring our attention to the main event: dinner and drinks. As a relatively social person, I’ve hosted groups of friends and family at my house for dinner, drinks and dessert numerous times over the years. Sometimes I get overly ambitious and attempt to make something I’ve never tried before with the world’s longest recipe in hopes of making our dinner a meal to remember.
Boozehound: Toast to summer with a tasty gin and tonic
This week, I’m celebrating the most summery of cocktails: the gin and tonic. This cocktail got its start back in the halcyon days of the British Empire when its subjects — especially those in the more exotic, tropical colonies — would drink this cocktail for their health.

pseudoSue is LV’s July 2014 Brew of the Month
Toppling Goliath Brewing Company’s pseudoSue is an American pale ale that puts other beers to shame with its ferocious aroma and flavors of citrus and tropical fruit. Created as a more hop-forward version of Toppling Goliath’s other pale ale, Tsunami Pale, Toppling Goliath brewmaster Michael Saboe said pseudoSue was first called Pseudo Tsu. However, “Tsu” […]
Boozehound reviews: Glenmorangie Original
Have you ever wondered what 16 burly Scottish Highlanders can do when they put their minds to it? If you’re ever in Scotland, you can stop by the Glenmorangie (the ‘morangie’ rhymes with ‘orangey’) Distillery and find out.
Beer Review: Deschutes Brewing’s ‘Hop in the Dark’
Black IPAs have become one of my favorite styles of beer, pairing the characteristics I love most about darker beers wtih those of IPAs. Not only does it offer the chocolate and toasted malt flavors characteristic of heavy, opaque stouts, it also features IPA bitterness and flavors of citrus, tropical fruit and pine.
Chicken Little Reviews: Thai Spice
It’s no coincidence that people who live in hotter climates enjoy fiery cuisine year-round; it’s basic science: Spicy food makes you sweat; sweat makes you cool down. The aptly named Thai Spice has the best green curry in town, but I don’t find it to be unbearably spicy; the coconut milk cuts the heat with […]
