The Jubeck New World Brewing Company, a Kickstarter-funded nano-brewery that plans to be a place “where everybody knows your name,” has opened in Dubuque. The brewery held a soft opening for its members on Thursday.

Similar to the community supported agriculture groups, the Jubeck New World Brewing Company is a community supported brewery (CSB). The brewery offers three different levels of annual memberships that entitle members to different amounts of beer.

Members at the $200 “Social” level can drink four pints per month at the taproom. Avid craft beer drinkers are encouraged to purchase a half membership for $350, which offers two 64-ounce growlers per month. For “the most enthusiastic of craft beer drinkers,” the full $600 membership provides members one growler per week for 50 weeks.

Instead of seeking a loan from a bank, the brewery turned to Kickstarter to raise money for the initial start-up costs and to manage the first round of membership enrollment. Fundraising began in April 2013 with an initial goal of raising $30,000. The brewery surpassed that goal one month later, collecting $37,027 from 175 donors.

The brewery’s initial beer offerings include Apricot Pale Ale, California Lager, Dark IPA, Lavender Honey-Wheat and Warrior Stout. The brewery also plans to offer one different beer nearly every week of the year.

The brewery is located at 115 W. 11th St. in downtown Dubuque, and the taproom will be open 4–11 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. Despite being a CSB, the brewery welcomes anyone of legal drinking age into the taproom to enjoy a beer; however, a limited amount of beer will be brewed every week and there is no guarantee that any will be left after membership obligations are honored.
