Local and regional baristas will be throwing down their finest designs at the inaugural Barista Latte Art Challenge at the Waterstreet Coffee Bar in Coralville this Thursday.

The event kicks off at 6 p.m. and is free to the public, but for an extra $5 at the door, beer and food will be readily available. Kickapoo Coffee Roasters and Baratza are sponsoring the event, with prizes set for competing baristas.

If latte art isn’t your thing, Waterstreet Coffee Bar (which opened in the fall of 2013) will be hosting a few other events this weekend that involve free espresso and jazz: Kickapoo representatives will be pulling the free espresso shots all Friday morning, and Duology will be performing on Saturday at 7 p.m.
