New Pi Co-op Café coming to the Coralville Public Library

After Forbidden Planet, the downtown Iowa City pizza arcade, announced it was closing, one of the most often asked questions was what would happen to its pinball machines and arcade games. Forbidden Planet will close next week and reopen with a new concept and name
Forbidden Planet owner Tommy Connolly took to Facebook this afternoon to announce that the downtown Iowa City pizza arcade will be closing its doors for good next week. Responding to questions over the phone, Connolly said he expects the last day will be in the later half of next week, but couldn’t give an exact date.

Crab rangoon pizza is coming to Cedar Rapids
Beloved Des Moines-based restaurant and tiki bar Fong’s Pizza will open its third location in the New Bohemia District later this year. As first reported by The Gazette, Full Court Press, the group behind the restaurant, plans to open the new location by early May. The location of first Fong’s Pizza was once home to King-Ying-Low, Des Moines’ oldest Chinese restaurant, which inspired the Asian influence in Fong’s menu and decor.

New restaurants and other changes on the local food scene in 2017
Fifteen restaurants — serving everything from burritos to bao — opened in the Iowa City area this year. Some were entirely new ventures, some belonged to local favorites that expanded (you no longer have to go downtown to get a pie shake). Taking a big step beyond its NewBo District coffee shop in Cedar Rapids, Brewhemia started distributing its nitro coffee throughout the corridor. And in Iowa City, a new, locally-owned food delivery was launched, to provide an alternative to big, national services like GrubHub.
