MC Chris returns to Iowa City Saturday as part of the “Revenge of the Nerd Tour: 2,” joined by openers Dr. Awkward, Jesse Dangerously and Tribe One. His shows are generally a mix of live music punctuated by comedic interludes.
While visiting Iowa City a few years ago, Chris stopped a show at Gabe’s mid-set to pull a number of attendees on stage in order to determine who at Gabe’s had the “coolest T-shirt.” It sounds odd, but the artist’s quick wit and talent for improvisational comedy kept things entertaining (despite his reputation for occasionally shitting on his fans).
MC Chris began his professional career as a writer and voice actor for Cartoon Network before resigning in 2004 to focus on his music. The rapper got in on the ground floor of the nerdcore movement, quickly rising to prominence for nerd-soaked tracks like “Fett’s Vette,” and “Geek.”
