That’s why I march. I’m not the only one; hundreds of thousands of students across the U.S. walked out on March 14, united under the same message: not one more. It might seem like we’ve already done a lot in protest, but we still haven’t seen significant changes — or even any attempts at reasonable, logical change — on a state or federal level.

On Feb. 7, P&G shared with the local community its decision to move the haircare and body wash production lines from Iowa City to its new West Virginia location in 2020. Make no mistake; the ramifications will stretch far beyond the estimated 500 positions that will be lost.

In memoriam: Basil Hadjis, an icon in the Cedar Rapids culinary scene
After decades of feeding and entertaining Cedar Rapidians, chef Basil Hadjis passed away last month at the age of 62. Owner of the Vernon Inn, Fourth Street Diner and Sweet Basil’s Pizza Pie and Basil’s Food, Hadjis was a mainstay of the local culinary scene. Most recently, Hadjis could be found at the Mount Vernon Road Hy-Vee, preparing meals at the Market Grille.

Letter to the Editor: Paul Ryan promoting a higher birth rate? “Misogyny in its finest hour!”
I frequently have the TV on when I’m doing work in my kitchen and the other day was no exception. CNN happened to be on and I caught the last few minutes of Paul Ryan’s news conference. I wasn’t paying much attention until I heard him advocating for the overhaul of entitlements and increasing the birth rate in this country.

Letter to the editor: Protect the charitable tax deductions that keep nonprofits afloat
We must support existing incentives for charitable giving by protecting the full scope and value of the tax deduction for all forms of charitable gifts. Charitable giving incentives encourage donors to give more, but under the Senate tax reform proposal, charities could see a staggering loss of up to $13.1 billion in contributions annually.

Op-Ed: West High women are taking their power back
“Boys will be boys” is a phrase that gets ingrained in everyone’s head from a young age.
