This is something that LV should be announcing promoting, and I don’t have the time right now to come up with 200 pithy, subtly hilarious words on the subject, so I’m going to just quote the e-mail I received from the redoubtable Shane O’Shaugnessy:

“This Saturday, the Iowa City Comics Creators Club, or I4C for short, is hosting the Iowan location for the annual international 24 Hour Comics Day. The purpose of the event is to gather together comic artists and/or writers to draw a 24 consecutive-page comic within the span of 24 hours.

“We shall be hosting the event in the basement of North Hall from noon, Saturday, October 2nd until noon, Sunday October 3rd. The I4C will be supplying food, drawing supplies, and sleeping rolls for those who wish to participate. When the comics are completed on the 3rd, the I4C will photocopy each of the comics and then mail them into the 24 Hour Comic main hub where they will be cataloged into the Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library to become part of their 24 Hour Comics Day permanent collection.

“We hope to meet many new comic artists and writers to inform them of I4C and our mission to gather together such individuals in the Iowa City area to strengthen to comics community. The I4C has been meeting weekly since February of this year, with a consistent membership of 10 people, where we each work on our own comics projects and also discuss about the comics community locally and abroad. With more members we hope to eventually present to the state, country, and world that Iowa City has a strong and active comics community, eventually working on publishing anthologies of member created comics. The I4C is also in the process of becoming a University of Iowa group to be able to get our message out further to the students.”
