Public Space One, also known as PS1, evokes the idea of the commons, a venerable tradition that allows all members of a society to have access to the same materials and spaces. “The name has always struck me as challenge,” said John Engelbrecht, PS1 director.

David Dondero returns to Iowa City tonight for a show at Public Space One
David Dondero returns to Iowa City with his “outbound sound” and the ups and downs (yes, he’s “been over- and under-rated”) of a singer-songwriter who has made a career not only on the road, but of the road (processing, performing, and navigating “highway archaeology,” that “snaky stretch of tar” in an average of 175 live shows per year over the last two decades). He joins Davenport musician Liv Carrow for an event co-hosted by Little Village at Public Space One tonight at 8 p.m.

‘EatChewAlive’ art exhibit takes over RADinc. for the month of July
‘EatChewAlive’ is visual artist John Schlue’s debut exhibition in Iowa City — some 14 years after he graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in studio art. The opening reception will be held at RADinc on Sunday, July 2 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the exhibition will be up at the downtown storefront gallery until Tuesday, July 25.

Graffiti-inspired exhibition, ‘Wastedland 2,’ features the post-apocalyptic at RADinc.
Director and guerilla artist Andrew H. Shirley is bringing his film, Wastedland 2 (2016), and a traveling exhibit of structures from the film, to RADinc. for an “immersive” experience Friday, June 2, from 8-11 p.m., with late-night hangs following. There will be two screenings of the film — at 8:30 and 10 p.m. — as well as performances by local soundscape artists Chaircrusher, Houzatosis, Mustard in Law and True Commando.
