Show Photos: Wailers, Duane Stephenson, Dave Bess @ the Blue Moose – 2/5

It’s no shock that a Wailers show during Bob Marley’s birthday weekend is bound to be a party. When I arrived there were a few clusters of people hanging out throughout the bar, but the spaciousness was quickly eaten up by the massive crowd of people that came to hear the legendary band. In fact, I made the mistake of leaving my ‘front row’ spot, and was unable to claw and bite my way back up to the front.

Art Show Photos: Pete Schulte | Oceans And Sky @ PS1 – 2/4

Last night, Public Space One hosted the opening reception for Pete Schulte‘s month-long gallery display, Oceans and Sky. I was there early and watched PS1 slowly fill up with folks standing around, admiring Schulte’s work and devouring absolutely delicious pastries courtesy of Iowa City’s Leaf Kitchen. Most of the press that surrounds the Chicago sextet Canasta is wrong.

Show Photos: Tyvek, Solid Attitude, Non Prayer, Slut River @ the Wherehouse – 1/28

I never considered myself a punk fan until I started spending time at the Wherehouse. There has been one great punk show after another, and I’ve come to love the noises that blare from the massive speakers that usually accompany hardcore bands. Last Friday I reluctantly  dragged myself out into the cold and down to the Wherehouse. I am always reluctant when it’s below 50 degrees, but I always manage to do it because these shows are always so damn good.
