Where do (did) you find 3 totally different musical experiences, a game show and a lot of moose drool? At the Blue Moose this past Thursday, of course! It was a nicely stacked bill: Sam Locke Ward, Coolzey, Jarret Mitchell’s Whether Report, Liberty Leg and a room full of all their closest friends, er fans.
Sam is one of the musicians in town that I’ve seen more times than I can count, but his set on Thursday was unlike all the rest. Sam took a different avenue from his usual experimental pop-rock sound and instead churned out some throbbing dance music. It’s just proof that the man can make just about any kind of music he wants.
Coolzey is another one stepping out of his usual genre to do something completely different and great. Generally known for his rhymes and not his riffs, he took up a guitar and a full band and put on a serious rock set.
The Whether Report was back under the lights again. Many of you have seen the Whether Report before someplace, but those of you that haven’t should check it out here. Guests gamble, make snarky comments and we get to see what the weather is like in other parts of the country.
Liberty Leg took us into the early hours of Friday with some beer-drenched blues rock. I can’t think of anyone else around here that sounds like Liberty Leg. They fill the void that the music community leaves in my heart for the blues. While not entirely a blues band, it’s this aspect of them that interests me the most. Check ’em out for yourself .
