The lobby of the Iowa City Public Library will open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, to provide a warm shelter during the extreme cold temperature, the City of Iowa City announced Tuesday afternoon. Coffee and hot cocoa will be available in the lobby, and the library has mittens, hats and scraves for those who need them. The library itself will be open its normal operating hours, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Disability simulation documentary premiering at the Iowa City Public Library
In 2017, Sujit Singh had an idea. He thought of it as his chance to create something that would start a conversation on disability. Singh envisioned a piece that would help people see a disabled individual not for their disability, but as a person first. With help from the community, his idea has blossomed into a piece titled Through My Eyes, a “disability simulation” documentary that will be premiering at the Iowa City Public Library on June 23 at 3 p.m.

City of Iowa City Recycling presents screening of ‘The Age of Consequences’ in honor of Earth Day
On Thursday, April 19, City of Iowa City Recycling is taking over meeting rooms A, B and C at the Iowa City Public Library to offer a free screening of 2016 environmental documentary “The Age of Consequences.” Popcorn and treats will be provided, and attendees will be invited to take home a free kitchen compost container. The recycling department makes a point to show several environmental films each year to engage the public, Recycling Coordinator Jane Wilch said in an email.
