Gabe’s Iowa City
Iowa City Weekender: July 29-31
Welcome to the weekend, fair Weekenders! If you own a house, cheers to you. If you don’t, you are most likely moving this weekend. Where to? Probably within a couple of blocks from where you live now.
Why? Why do we do this? I don’t know, tradition, I guess.
Tim Stop Trio Live at Gabe's (VIDEO)

Tim Stop Trio stopped by Gabe’s over the weekend to play some music, much to our benefit. The Chicagoan quartet played a number of original tracks as well as a few covers, including Warren G’s Regulators. It’s hard to argue with Warren G, to be fair.
Lightning Bolt live at Gabe's (VIDEO DUMP)

This Wednesday’s Lightning Bolt at Gabe’s was one of the loudest shows I’ve seen in quite some time. It was also one of the best. If you haven’t yet had a chance to read A.C. Hawley’s preview for the show, it’s still a relevant read, and perhaps even more so if you happened to attend the show itself. You’ll realize that Hawley’s proselytizing was entirely accurate.
Nebula Was, Live at Gabe's: Full Show mp3 Download

Little Village Magazine and Nebula Was are happy to present “Nebula Was: Live at Gabe’s,” a free, high quality recording of their July 9 performance. Consisting of nine Mp3 tracks pulled directly from the sound board, you’ll be hard pressed to find a higher quality recording of a full Iowa City concert.
Show Preview: Lightning Bolt, The Tanks, Supersonic Piss, Living Ghost at Gabe's – 7/14/10

Rock aficionados take note, Gabe’s is hosting an all-ages show this Wednesday that, as Hott would say, is guaranteed to destroy. Supersonic Piss, Living Ghost and The Tanks are combining forces with Rhode Island’s Lightning Bolt to form one solid mass of pure rock hysteria.
Daphne Willis live at Gabe's (VIDEO)

Safe to say, Iowa City has plenty of love for singer/songwriter Daphne Willis. The 22-year-old Chicagoan brought a throng of fans to Gabe’s over the weekend, playing alongside Megan McCormick, Megan Burtt, Amanda Miller and Alan Sweet. Check out the video inside to see Daphne in action.
Boutros live at Gabe's (VIDEO)

The mysterious duo known as Boutros called Gabe’s their home Saturday night, performing a full set before letting The Vicious Guns take the stage. With beats slightly reminiscent of France’s Justice with a bass guitar to boot, there’s plenty of reason to give these two from Chicago a quick listen.
System and Station, Modern Day Satire live at Gabe's (VIDEO)

Portland’s System and Station and the more local rock group Modern Day Satire–based in Des Moines–came by Gabe’s this weekend to play us some music. The show was a nice cherry on top of an otherwise action-packed Iowa City weekend, of which the Iowa City Pride Parade and Festival was the centerpiece, and we have plenty of video for you to sink your teeth into.
Show Preview: Aktar Aktar, June 12 at Gabe's
If David Byrne, Slash, and Joe Strummer united to form a rock supergroup—and if, miraculously, things really clicked—that band would likely sound something like Aktar Aktar. The Chicago four-piece will headline Gabe’s this Saturday night, borrowing the best ingredients of art rock, cock rock and punk rock and mixing them into their tasty signature blend. […]

Merlin and Mad Monks at Gabe's (VIDEO)

With all of the Iowa Arts Festival excitement from last weekend, you may have missed some of the other shows taking place. Long after guitarist Sonny Landreth had finished up on the festival main stage, Merlin and Mad Monks were still rocking hard at Gabe’s.
