The Summer of the Arts’ Iowa Arts Festival is back for its 40th year and will take place the first weekend in June in downtown Iowa City. Yesterday, festival organizers announced that they’re hosting roughly 90 visual artists and bringing in many national and local acts to perform on the free festival’s main stage.
SOA’s national headliners include Jeremy Kittel with Kittel & Co, a Grammy-nominated violinist, fiddler and composer on Friday, and Asleep at the Wheel, a 10-time Grammy-winning Americana Western swing group on Saturday night. A performance by Them Coulee Boys, a folk-rock band from Wisconsin, will wrap up the festival on Sunday afternoon.
Notable local and regional artists hitting the stage on Friday and Saturday include Avey Grouws Band, a Quad Cities blues group; Eastern Iowa blues-rock group Wooden Nickel Lottery; the soulful American roots act Pinicon Drift; indie rock artist Dickie; the Kansas City duo Katy Guillen & the Drive; and Ivy Ford, a multi-instrumentalist from Chicago.
Local favorite MAAAZE, a rock band from Eastern Iowa, and the Jamaican reggae band Wontu Trees will be performing on Sunday.
