It’s no secret any longer: the complete lineup for this spring’s Mission Creek Festival is here, and it’s full to the brim with fantastic additions to an already-exciting schedule.
Filmmaker, comics writer and podcaster Kevin Smith tops the list. The newly added headliner will be bringing his well-known “An Evening with Kevin Smith” program to the festival. Following the cult success of his 1994 breakout film Clerks, Smith has become a star in everything he touches. The film spawned two direct sequels (Clerks III is due out this year) along with an animated television series, numerous films featuring many of the same regular characters (all part of the View Askewniverse of Smith’s View Askew production company) and several comics based on the characters. Those early Oni Press comics led to Smith’s turn in mainstream comic writing, starting with a 1999 Joe Queseda-illustrated turn on the Daredevil series. His dive into the world of podcasting has produced several more celebrated initiatives, through the sixteen shows under his SModcast moniker, six of which are his own weekly podcasts.

Also added to the event headliners are celebrated Rhode Island-based rockers Deer Tick. Formed in 2004, the indie scene darlings will be coming to Mission Creek as part of their 2016 spring acoustic tour. Their fifth and most recent album is 2013’s Negativity.
Other new additions include Wisconsin indie-folksters PHOX, The Moth‘s StorySLAM host and GrandSLAM champion storyteller Peter Aguero and acclaimed essayist and UI Nonfiction Writing Program Director John D’Agata. See the complete Mission Creek Festival lineup below; new additions are in bold.
The Mission Creek Festival runs April 5โ10, 2016 at a wide variety of locations across Iowa City. Festival passes at the Silver ($135) and Deluxe ($350) levels are now available. Tickets to individual shows will go on sale this Friday, Jan. 29 at noon.
