Update: Gabe’s has recently announced that tonight’s performance featuring Kris Wadsworth has been rescheduled to March 19. Sophistifunk will still take place tonight, however, and cover has been reduced to $5.
DJ Jethro & DJ Uplift (Jeff Ryon & Brandon Richerson when the cops pull them over) are starting a new monthly dance event at Gabe’s they call Sophistifunk. Veteran DJs who’ve rocked the stage at Gabe’s back in the day many, many times, they’re bringing Kris Wadworth from Detroit to headline.
Kris is one of the young guns starting to make noise in Detroit, carrying the torch for Detroit Techno, but finding a new sound all his own within the tradition. If you don’t know Detroit, you may not know the high standards the city sets for DJs. In Detroit, if you can’t absolutely slay a crowd, you might as well stay home and surf the web for porn.
So if you like to dance, and you don’t mind getting sweaty, Gabe’s will be the place to be Friday Night!
