Thin Hymns w/ Bryn Lov, Giant Question Mark

Trumpet Blossom Cafe – Friday, December 6 at 9:30 p.m.

Trumpet Blossom Cafe has established its bona fides as a vegan foodie destination, but has stealthily become one of Iowa City’s most interesting music venues, hosting shows of interesting music from the margins of popular music. This Friday night they welcome Chicago’s Thin Hymns, whose lush melodic post rock pulls together influences like Tortoise, Animal Collective, and even (a bit) of Joanna Newsome.

Which is to say they are accomplished players and singers who aren’t content to make simple music, yet avoid falling into the trap of pointless complexity. It’s lovely stuff, and if you don’t believe me spend 20 minutes streaming their BLACKWATER EP on bandcamp. Opening local artists no less delicious. Everyone’s favorite pop weirdo Alex Body and Joe Heuerman team up as Giant Question Mark, and grind-gazey-folk chanteuse Bryn Lov will be performing her last show before heading back to Los Angeles.

So if you’ve never been here’s your chance for some unique musical entertainment, combined with the best sweet potato fries in town, a winning combo in my book.
