By Tom Rocklin, Iowa City

I’m voting for Dan Stevenson for school board, and I encourage you to do the same on Nov. 4, or during early voting.

I got to know Dan when we served together on the Iowa City Public Library Board of Trustees. Dan demonstrated a a collaborative and positive approach to policy making on the ICPL board, as well as an outstanding ability to see the key strategic issues that faced us on the board. Dan understands the very different roles of a governing board and an organization’s management. In my experience, that’s one of the key factors in a board member’s effectiveness.

The Iowa City Community School District faces some of the same kinds of issues that the ICPL has faced recently. Both will have to find ways to do more with less, and both will have to navigate a complex environment in state politics. Dan’s extensive background in public education and his passion for the education of all students will serve him and the ICCSD well.

Please join me in supporting Dan Stevenson for school board.
