The University of Iowa’s Women’s Resource and Access Center (WRAC), which long occupied the “Old Blue House” at the top of the steep hill on Market Street, will hold a grand opening for its new space in the Bowman House at 230 N. Clinton St. this Tuesday.

Last December, WRAC hosted a goodbye party at the space the organization had occupied since 1976. In 1994, a fuel truck crashed into the house, but the organization remained on the recognizable premises, even as the building, built in 1892, deteriorated and the population it served greatly expanded. In March, “Old Blue” will be demolished.

WRAC, which is part of UI’s Division of Student Life, offers a variety of services, including support and discussion groups, counseling and a public library.

The official opening of the Bowman House space will include tours and refreshments. A ribbon cutting will be held at 5:15 and the event is open to the public.
