Three Iowa brewers took home gold medals at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado this weekend. The two-day event hosted hundreds of breweries nationwide, all vying for medals across more than 90 categories and styles.

Lion Bridge Brewing Co., based in Cedar Rapids, won gold in the Brown Porter category for its beer Disaster at Meux, beating out 56 fellow entrants. Exile Brewing Co. in Des Moines, meanwhile, snagged a gold medal for its beer Gigi, besting 33 other breweries in the European-Style Dark/Münchner Dunkel category.

The final Iowa-won gold medal went to West Okoboji’s West O Beer, for its popular stout, West O CocO. The western Iowa brewer beat out 74 entrants, taking top honors in the Sweet Stout/Cream Stout category for the second year in a row.

Iowa’s gold medal haul makes for a slight improvement over last year. At the 2014 Great American Beer Festival, Lion Bridge Brewing Co. won top honors in the English-Style Mild Ale category with Workman’s Compensation, while the aforementioned West O CocO won gold in the Sweet Stout/Cream Stout category.
