Protesters gathered on the steps of the Old Capitol at noon to call on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee to reject Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, or at least conduct a thorough investigation of the charges of sexual assault brought against him by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and two other women.

On Friday, July 6, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley stopped in Iowa City as part of his commitment to visit all 99 counties in Iowa. Tru Art Color Graphics and Bankers Advertising Company hosted the senator’s town hall meeting in the calendar factory that is the heart of the 122-year-old business; the meeting was in part an opportunity for Grassley to take a tour and see the manufacturing in action. Vigil in Cedar Rapids on Monday evening to support families affected by the Mt. Pleasant ICE raid
There will be a vigil in Cedar Rapids in support of the families of the 32 workers who were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Wednesday. The vigil, which starts at 5 p.m., will be held in front of Sen. Chuck Grassley’s regional office 111 7th Ave SE.

Iowans disapprove of Trump, but Iowa Republicans in Congress keep voting for his policies
A majority of Iowans disapproved of President Trump’s actions during his first year in office, according to a new analysis by Gallup. But that didn’t stop any of the Republicans who represent the state in Congress from voting with Trump more than 90 percent of the time.

Seeing red and getting called ‘unhinged’: Iowa politics in 2017
Republican took full control of state government in Iowa in 2017, and moved quickly to enact an intensely ideological agenda, making major changes that reduced women’s access to health care, reduced union bargaining rights, expanded access to guns and decreased support for public education. But it was liberals Gov. Kim Reynolds called “unhinged,” at her first campaign fundraiser. Public statements by Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Joni Ernst called in question how well-hinged Iowa’s two U.S. Senators are. Meanwhile in the Iowa State Senate, Senate Majority Leader Bill tried to convince the public there’s no problem with sexual harassment in the Republican caucus (a jury disagreed). The Democratic state Senate caucus, on the other hand, made news by replacing Cedar Rapids Sen. Rob Hogg as its leader, even though Hogg had held the position for less than a year.
