The Mill hosted a fundraiser benefiting the Local Foods Connection on Sept 25th. The evening was packed with music from a variety of local artists, art and handmade goods, raffles, a silent auction, dancing, Â food and booze….it was a great night and I was glad to be asked to capture some shots from the event.
I hopped over the Mississippi River to the Rock Island Brewery Company a couple weeks ago to see this excellent conglomeration of performers – Nathaniel Rateliff, Will Whitmore and the Old Scratch Revival Singers. I’ve seen all these folks in Iowa City, but it was great to take a little trip out of town to catch some great ‘local’ music.
I will spare you my usual gushing over Will Whitmore’s witty and mischievously uplifting lyrics, intoxicating melodies, and unmatched stage presence. Instead, I will say that his free performance in the Ped Mall on Saturday evening was everything you’d expect from the inimitable performer. That man can also cover a song like nobody’s business.
Over the last few years, it seemed like the exponential spread of the summer mega-festival was never going to stop, as little Bonnaroos and Coachellas started showing up from Maine to Oregon and everywhere in-between, including our own state.
