‘Death by a thousand cuts’: University Camera is closing after 48 years
University Camera, which opened in 1970, is the last full-service camera store in Johnson County and one of a handful of such stores still remaining in the Midwest. When it closes its doors for the last time on April 15, a wide range of photographic services will disappear in Iowa City.

New free wi-fi network for the Ped Mall
The Ped Mall has a new free wi-fi service. The Iowa City Downtown District (ICDD) has partnered with Cedar Rapids-based ImOn Communications to provide free high-speed wireless internet access on the Ped Mall, it was announced on Tuesday.

Holiday pop-up shops on the Ped Mall open on Saturday
The first of three temporary structure that will house the Downtown Holiday Market’s pop-up shops was delivered to Black Hawk Mini Park on Wednesday afternoon. The pop-up shops are replacing the one-day tent sale that was held in the park for the past two years.

Home-like art installation coming to Black Hawk Mini Park
The Black Hawk Mini Park in downtown Iowa City will host a temporary art installation called the Prairie Box designed by Hannah Givler, a sculpture and design instructor at the University of Iowa, from August through the end of October. The plan was unanimously approved by the Iowa City Council last week.
