Iowa had the highest high school graduation rate in the country in 2016, according to a new report from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). Last year’s graduation rate was 91.3 percent, much higher than the national average of 84.1 percent. The statistics track the on-time graduation rates of students who have attended high schools for four years.

Suspect taken into custody in Liberty High School shooting threat
A minor has been taken into custody for shooting threat that caused the Iowa City Community School District to cancel classes at Liberty High School. The threat was posted anonymously on Instagram Thursday night, according to a statement North Liberty Police Chief Diane Venenga emailed to Little Village.

Iowa City schools will get rid of controversial temporary seclusion rooms
The Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) plans to remove all the temporary seclusion rooms from its schools, according to an email sent to district parents by ICCSD Superintendent Stephen Murley. The temporary rooms are box-like 6-by-6-foot wooden structures with padded walls used to isolate students. Seclusion rooms are only supposed to be used as a last resort, when a student’s behavior is uncontrollable.

One of them was $28,000 to pay for balancing and conditioning mechanical systems at the new Hoover Elementary school. You were told by the ICCSD facilities manager, Duane Van Hemert that the extra money was required because the work wasn’t written into the original construction contract that the district allowed the contractor to write, and that it was work required by law.
