Since May, Gov. Kim Reynolds has prevented Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller from submitting friend-of-the-court briefs in 10 federal lawsuits brought by other states against the Trump administration. The cases involve environmental regulations, gun control, reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights and the treatment of asylum seekers.

Gov. Reynolds makes false claim about her statement on the death of Mollie Tibbetts
Following last week’s arrest of an undocumented Mexican immigrant for the murder of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts, Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a statement, which included the line, “We are angry that a broken immigration system allowed a predator like this to live in our community.” On Thursday, Reynolds was asked about her statement, and she replied, “I didn’t immediately start talking about immigration.”

Hundreds march in Iowa City for the Families Belong Together rally
The heat index hovered near 100 degrees, and the most direct routes were blocked by the Iowa City Jazz Festival and the Iowa City Farmers Market, but that didn’t stop an enthusiastic crowd of hundreds from marching to College Green Park from the terrace of the Old State Capitol on Saturday morning for Iowa City’s Families Belong Together rally.

Protesters will gather in Cedar Rapids to push for the reunification of migrant families
On Saturday, there will be rallies protesting in more than 620 cities across the country, including Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, to protest the Trump administration treatment of migrants arriving at the U.S. border with Mexico.
