The film, which was developed by the same production studio that brought us Food Inc., examines the plight of some 50 million Americans deemed food insecure despite the nation’s apparent abundance of food and its ever-expanding waistband. It challenges the viewer to rethink hunger’s social and political ramifications in a nation complicated by divisive federal subsidies for agribusiness, a dependence on sugars and starches, and limited access to healthy foods among poorer communities.
In the spirit of the cause, admission is free so long as attendees bring along a donation to the Johnson County Crisis Center Food Bank. Event organizers suggest five food items or $5.
