Don McLean

Englert Theatre – July 27 at 8:00 p.m. ($40-65)

Don McLean - American Pie
Don McLean is best known for his hit songs “American Pie,” and “And I Love You So,” the latter of which was covered by numerous artists including Elvis Presley.

Famed American (pie) songwriter Don McLean is set to perform at the Englert Theatre Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

Though you might only be familiar with McLeanโ€™s 1971 hit, American Pie, he has stayed busy in the years since, releasing another 18 albums. In 2010 he began a series of world tours in support of his generally well-received 2009 release, Addicted to Black.

McLean has always been an artist who enjoys traveling and performing live, saying he feels itโ€™s his job as an entertainer to tailor his sets to different audiences. In an interview wherein McLean fielded reader-submitted questions, he describes the relationship he has with his fans during live performances.

โ€œSometimes youโ€™d be in a place where people were always pretty up and theyโ€™d have a few before the show and theyโ€™d be ready to have some fun,โ€ Mclean said. โ€œSo my job, as I see it, is to try to use many different techniques to unlock what I know is there and that is everybody wants to have fun, everybody wants to have a good time.โ€
