AmeriCorps members kicked off the first annual 319 Music Festival in Wetherby Park Saturday, bringing the Southeast side of Iowa City everything from hip hop to folk rock. Those that stuck it out through the cool weather were treated to Iowa folk legends Dave Moore and Davd Zollo, as well as the hip hop of Idris Goodwin–who recently appeared on Little Village Live–among many others.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without the Broadway Neighborhood Center, which spearheaded the event along with its AmeriCorp colleagues. Catering was provided by the Hamburg Inn, whose grilled burgers and hot coffee were a well-appreciated respite from the otherwise gloomy weather.
Given that the festival was a community oriented event, we’ll begin with a clip from The Fly Cats, a local youth dance troupe who performed between sets during one of the few sunny moments of the afternoon.
Performing earlier in the day were the previously mentioned Dave Moore and Dave Zollo, both famed for their long-lasting careers in writing superb American folk music. As always, the musicians’ on-stage chemistry is an undeniable pleasure to see.
Local talents Idris Goodwin and Der Dey Go performed later in the afternoon following an excellent set by Saul Lubaroff and the Funk 4. Putting on a post-festival concert at Gabe’s later in the evening, Der Dey Go had a busy day to say the least.
Goodwin–always sure to please–was one of the highlights of the day-long festival. Make sure to check out video from his appearance on Little Village Live if the following clip leaves you wanting more.

Man! Little Village's online dealio is awesome. Thanks for covering this event so completely. Yee haw!
