An impromptu beginning to my series, “Experiencing, Gathering, Iowa City” began last week. I started feeling dizzy as I drew closer to the Old Capitol Museum. The sprawling lawn looked incredibly enticing. So, I did what others have been doing for ages. I found a spot, laid down, looked up at the sky, felt the breeze and played with a blade of grass.
I then went home and sent a little package to my dear friend and fellow artist, Nanette. Even though I’ve moved away, we still want to share our experiences and inspire each other’s work. Here’s what we’re envisioning:
- I will gather photos, thoughts and items from each experience and send them to her.
- She will write a poem in response to what I’ve sent, letting her inspiration take her wherever it goes.
- I will then make a print inspired by her poem.
And so it begins.
