Over one hundred people gathered near a small cemetery in Lee County on Saturday with one common purpose: to protest the advancement of the Dakota Access Pipeline under the Mississippi River.
Standing in front of the cemetery where his father is buried, Lee County resident and vocal pipeline opponent Hughie Tweedy addressed the group and spoke about his own fight to keep the pipeline off of his family farm in Montrose. The group, which included several members of the Native American community and people from across Iowa and Illinois, then marched down Mississippi River Road to the entrance of the pipeline worksite.
