North Liberty’s 7th annual Blues & BBQ festival takes place this Saturday at Liberty Centre.

The festival starts at noon with a performance by the North Central Junior High Jazz Band, and live shows are set to continue throughout the day. Well-known Iowa blues man Kevin “BF” Burt & Big Medicine, The Funkdaddies, Music4Life, The Curtis Hawkins Band, and Hal Reed are all scheduled to perform.

Organizers proclaim, “We are all about our Iowa-ness,” and in staying true to this commitment, food vendors from across the state will be on-hand serving up barbecue, with beer from the beverage garden coming exclusively from Iowa microbreweries.

As a family and community-oriented event, the festival will feature several activities geared toward children as well. A petting zoo, climbing wall and obstacle course, “bounce houses” and inflatable slide are a few of the kid-friendly events lined up. In addition, the Iowa Children’s Museum will be sponsoring the Musical Playing Ground where children will be able to make their own musical instruments.

The festival ends after the North Liberty Centennial fireworks show, which will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

If there is severe weather on Saturday, the festival will be postponed until Sunday.
