The July 19 school board election provides the community an opportunity to make progress. For this reason, I support Paul Roesler for school board.

Paul graduated from the Iowa City school system and the University of Iowa. He has served on the District’s School Improvement Advisory Committee, the Districtwide Parent Organization, the Lemme PTA, several principal hiring committees, the Liberty High School naming and logo committee and the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Commission. Paul’s wife, Brandi, teaches at Mark Twain Elementary and their children attend Lemme and South East Junior High.

Paul knows that whether you live in North Liberty, Iowa City, Coralville or Hills, we all want the same thing for our children: a great education. He attends nearly every school board and committee meeting to stay on top of the issues facing the district. If elected, Paul will hit the ground running.

Paul supports the facilities master plan, which addresses overcrowding and inadequate infrastructure throughout our district. He will champion the 2017 general obligation bond, which is needed to complete Liberty High, update City and West High and improve numerous other schools throughout the district. He believes we should have three equally strong high schools.

Paul embraces the diversity in our schools, which he believes enhances the education of all students. He understands that socioeconomically balanced schools are one of many critical components to closing the achievement gap and removing barriers to education. He believes that more integrated attendance zones can benefit all children. While he prioritizes academic achievement, he knows the importance of extracurricular activities. He will work with the board to develop thoughtful solutions to ensure transportation is not a barrier.

Paul is dedicated to ensuring that every child in our district succeeds. Please join me in supporting Paul Roesler for school board.
