By Iowa Sen. Elinor A. Levin, Iowa City
I’ve only lived in Johnson County since the year after its voters approved the first Conservation Bond in 2008, which means I’ve had the pleasure and benefit of seeing all of the good that has been done with the funds that were raised, natural areas that were protected, trails and parks that were created and improved, and, most vitally to me, personally, rivers, streams, and lakes that have been protected, monitored, and improved for the ecosystem and for human health and enjoyment. I made my home here in part because I saw small clear improvements being made, on a regular basis — projects I supported and loved!
Now, it’s my chance to pay that service forward to the new folks coming to join us in the next two decades. Today, I’m voting my full ballot, including flipping it over and ensuring that I VOTE YES on the Johnson County Conservation Bond question.
Whether you’re voting absentee, early drive-up or walk-in, satellite, or on Election Day, don’t skip the back of the ballot — think of your future enjoyment of our county, and of the young people who might come here to join us.
Levin is the representative for District 89 in the Iowa State.
