THURSDAY

A Dog’s Life | Riverside Theatre (213 N Gilbert) | 7:30 pm | $12-28

Yes, Weekenders, this is your last chance to see the all-ages, tail waggin’, on your back rollin’, belly scratchin’, bum sniffin’ musical comedy “A Dog’s Life” at Riverside Theatre.  Big thanks to Iowa City’s professional theatre company for sponsoring the Weekender these last few weeks.  If you think that was a good idea, and you’d like to join in the fun, please email us here!

The show starts at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at 2:00 pm Sunday.

FRIDAY

5th Anniversary Party | Oasis Falafel (206 N Linn St) | 11 am -9 pm | FREE

Perhaps the only thing better than sludgy gooey Turkish Coffee is a nice piece of homemade Baklava, personally delivered by a secret source in Dubuque.  Even better is both said delicacies… for FREE.  Oasis Falafel is celebrating it’s 5th anniversary this weekend, and this is just what they are offering: Free Turkish and Baklava, all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Don’t miss it!

They are also sponsoring a blood drive in association with DeGowin Blood Center, offering a free falafel pita to the first 500 donors.  This article in yesterday’s Press Citizen shows all the dates for the “Hummus where the heart is” blood drive.

While we’re talking about it, a big thanks to our friends Ofer and Naftaly, co-owners of Oasis Falafel.  They were our special guests on last night’s edition of Little Village Radio.  If you’d like to tune in, our show is on KRUI every Wednesday from 5-6 pm.  Shows are live-streamed online at KRUI, here, and podcasts are archived on our website, here.

SATURDAY

Curious what's happening this weekend? Sign up here to stay in the know.

I.O.W.A. – The UI Breakers’ second annual break dancing jam | Iowa Memorial Union | 6 pm | $3-5

Oh radio show, oh shameless self-promotion, let’s continue with you… UI Breakers, the student group that spins on it’s head, is having a demo this weekend called “I Oughta Wreck Again!,”  a clever mnemonic device that helps you use head spinning to remember how to spell your home state.

UI Breakers founding member Chuy Renteria was also on our radio show last week, and if you missed it, you can hear it here!

If you missed last semester’s demo, check out the YouTube video here:

Not bad, eh?

Also Saturday, also not bad, though perhaps a bit sad in that emo way that now makes us feel old and nostalgic….

The Get Up Kids w/ Youth Group and Pretty & NIce| The Picador | 8:30 pm | $20

Yeah, now that we’re old and rich, we can afford to go to $20 shows.  Ain’t life grand?

Have a Great Weekend!
