Iowa City Weekender: June 27-29

WOWZA WHAT A HUGE WEEKEND! It’s like it’s the 4th of July or somethin’! But it’s not! Yet! This Weekender will focus on two major events happening in Iowa City proper and a little bit outside: Seldom Seen Festival and #Daddyhoffsblockparty. There are some other things to check out obviously, but I want to start with two of the best music events happening in Iowa this year next to Mission Creek.

Friday and Saturday, June 28 and 29

Seldom Seen Festival | Farm Outside of Monmouth, IA | $20 on-site

Unique and ambitious, Seldom Seen festival is in it’s third year and this year is the biggest ever. There have already been quite a few articles about Seldom Seen so far this month in LV, so I will summarize by saying that these folks put a lot of hard work into making this happen and it shows. A beautiful farm for camping, an eclectic music line-up and inspiring art and literature will make this event amazing. Here are the details:

Brian Johannesen & Alexis Stevens, Chasing Shade
AWTHNTKTS, AlienTech, Henrietta, EZ EC and D Gus, DJ Nice Kicks

#DADDYHOFFSBLOCKPARTY | Noon to 10pm | College Green Park | Free | All Ages

Disclaimer: This is a going-away party for the author. He is producing and performing in the event.

If camping doesn’t tickle your fancy or you simply don’t have enough gas money to drive north this weekend, there is another option: My going away party, #daddyhoffsblockparty. That’s right, after 8 years in Iowa City, I am moving to Washington, DC at the end of July to pursue a career with a major insurance company (I’ll let you guess which one if you don’t know me). So in celebration of Iowa City and my amazing time here, I’ve obtained permits through the city and rented College Green Park for one last huge blowout featuring some of the best local musical talent as well as crafts and food; and so we can all act like little kids for a day: a bounce castle and a dunk tank! The event is family-friendly, free, and runs from Noon to 10pm. There is also a community-wide garage sale happening from 9am to noon and an afterparty dance party featuring DJ Sit-Ups at Gabe’s. Come hang out with me and all of my favorite bands, and buy a poster or t-shirt with my face on it! It’s a me-party with a community vibe. Here are the details:

MUSIC

OLD SCRATCH REVIVAL SINGERS / CIRQUE STUPENDO / SOLID ATTITUDE / SUPERSONIC PISS / NERV / FOUL TIP / LOS VOLTAGE / ALEX BODY / COOL BOOBS / ACOUSTIC GUILLOTINE / SAMUEL LOCKE-WARD & THE GARBAGE BOYS / RUSTY BUCKETS / BROOKS STRAUSE / DOUGLAS KRAMER NYE / DEAD IN BED / STIFF RIDE / 2FLY / DWELLING FRUIT
