Greetings Weekenders!

Like many adults, I often close my eyes very hard, squeeze’em shut for a long time, cover my ears and scream until I am convinced on a core level that I am entitled to a trip to the swimming pool.

The nice thing is, here in campus town it hardly takes any time at all. With so many people operating on the academic calendar, the school’s-out-for-summer attitude is gloriously contagious, and yes I will take seconds.

All over town adults are lounging.

To those unabashedly about to rock at the swimming pool, on a weekday? We salute you.

To those about to write – we salute you too! If you are in town for the Summer Writing Festival the Writers’ Workshop Summer Program, or the Iowa Young Writers’ Studio write to us with your impressions of IC. We are very curious! Send to Editor@LittlevillageMag.com.

If you find this town lovably loathably funny, help us Roast IC on July 18th!

But what shall we do this weekend?

THURSDAY

Mac Lethal w/ DJ Sku, F Stokes, Imperfekt & The Mic Hand Crew | Blue Mooose Tap House | 6-10 pm (all ages) | $8

From Minnesota’s Rhymesayers Entertainment, Mac Lethal brings some big Midewestern backpack rap to the Blue Moose tonight. Attire: Dress like you want to be in this video

FRIDAY

Love’s Labour’s Lost | Lower City Park | 8 pm | $15-37

Schmomeo and Schmuliet – At this summer’s Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival, my pick is for Love’s Labour’s Lost, in which…

A king and his noblemen swear off women to concentrate on their studies. Then, four of France’s most alluring beauties arrive. This witty, poetic feast of young love showcases the Bard’s comedic talents and is ripe with parody, puns, and surprises!

Weather.com calls for clear skies this Friday, so it should be a great night for outdoor theatre (knock on wood).

SATURDAY

Crooked Fingers w. So Cow | The Mill | 9 pm | $10, 21+

Eric Bachmann is best known for his 90’s band Archers of Loaf, but Crooked Fingers are fighting hard to get out from under that shadow with a big and wonderful discography of their own – 5 LP’s and several EP’s strong. Though his most recent album, Forfeit/Fortune (released in 2008 and featuring guest spots by Neko Case and members of Silver Jews) got some pretty bad reviews, Crooked Fingers have plenty of hits to draw upon this Saturday at the Mill. So Cow came all the way from Ireland to be here in support, so why shouldn’t you be there too?

Have a great weekend!
