THURSDAY

Andy Frasco w. Collectible Boys | 9 pm | Yacht Club | $5

Big thanks to Andy Frasco AND Collectible Boys for coming on Little Village Live last night. Watch this space for videos of their live in-studio performance. It’s true what the ICYC says about Frasco on their site: “The 21 year old blues musician has a drive that could steer him straight to the moon with enough energy left over to do a little dance once heโ€™s made it.” His band’s not so bad either – keeping up with him for about 250 shows per year! Head to the Yacht Club this Thursday night for some high-energy-piano-driven-blues-rock-soul.

Also of note: The local king of said genre, David Zollo, will be at the Yacht Club this Friday night with his Body Electric.

FRIDAY

Samba + Capoeira | The ped mall | 5 pm | FREE

Bloco Folclorico Afro Samba School and Capoeira Angola Palmares will be playing Capoeira and Samba on the Ped Mall at 5 pm. This is a pre-show event for the Friday Night Concert featuring Euforquestra. If you love Samba and/or Capoeira, these locals invite you to “come and dance or play with us!”

Samuel Locke Ward record release party w. Ed Gray, Alex Body & Doug Nye | The Mill | 9 pm | $6

Well, it’s been about a month since the last Sam Locke Ward album came out. I’m not sure why it took so long, but it certainly is about time Sam came out with another! Barely Regal Beagles is in, and you can get yourself a copy this Friday night at the Mill. If you are sick of Sam Locke Ward, you must be some sort of crazy genius because nobody that I know can keep up with this dude. Except possibly local producer Chaircrusher (read: crazy genius). Some of the most original artists in Iowa City will be joining Sam this Friday night: Alex Body, Ed Gray and Doug Nye. In addition to being a record release celebration, it’s also Sam’s tour kick-off show, as he prepares to hit the west coast with Simon Joyner. Good luck, Sam!

SATURDAY

Cirque Stupendo | Ped Mall stage | 6:30-9:30 | FREE

Come get your “oooh” and “aaaahhhh” on with Cirque Stupendo – the show guaranteed to amaze onlookers young and old! Mind boggling juggling, shocking feats of balance and strength. Strange beauty. Wonder. Get out in the sun on the ped mall this Saturday, and bask in the brilliance of Cirque Stupendo.

Have a great weekend!
