Iowa City doom metal trio Aseethe have signed with Chicago-based record label Thrill Jockey to produce their upcoming 2017 record. Guitarist Brain Barr, bassist Danny Barr and drummer Eric Diercks have been cutting records and performing their ambient sludge metal in the Midwest for nearly ten years.
This is a big deal right?
From a career standpoint, absolutely. Signing with an independent record label of Thrill Jockey’s caliber marks a professional turning point for this hometown trio.
From the horse’s mouth:
“They have an amazing roster of artists that we are honored to be a part of,” the band writes. “So we couldn’t be happier working with an amazing label, and some of nicest people around.”
On the road again
Aseethe is currently on a Midwest tour. They play tonight at 8 p.m. at the Lift in Dubuque, July 9 at the Wedge (Cedar Falls), July 17 at the Islands (Moline), July 30 at Bierstube (Moline) and August 18 at DG’s Taphouse in Ames. From there, they’ll be joining Hexagram’s Midnite Communion tour in California.
