Ellison Eyewear, a company with Iowa roots that specializes in luxury sunglasses, will be holding a launch party tonight from 6-8 p.m. at 30hop, located along the Iowa River Landing at 900 E. 2nd Ave. in Coralville.
The launch party will feature live music, complimentary craft beers and special “VIP” discounts on their products.
Ellison was founded just over a month ago by Aristotle Loumis, Chris Grigoriou and University of Iowa grad Ravi Patel. With help from a grant from Built By Iowa, a private equity fund co-founded by Patel, the group has been able to make their vision a reality. The company currently has locations in Greece and Chicago, and recently announced that their line of sunglasses will soon be available at Discerning Eye in downtown Iowa City.
The company bills itself as being socially-conscious, donating a portion of the proceeds from each pair of sunglasses to Arivind Eye Care System, an organization that works with developing nations to prevent cases of avoidable blindness.
Tonight’s celebration at 30hop is free and open to the public.
