Emmy-winning filmmaker Peter Nicks in town for free screening, Q&A

HNI Auditorium, Pomerantz Center | 7:00 p.m. | Free

Peter Nicks
Peter Nicks is a former producer for ABC News New York and Life 360 for PBS.
Director, producer and cinematographer Peter Nicks will attend a free screening of his documentary Waiting Room this evening, a vivid look behind the scenes of an American public hospital struggling to care for its largely-uninsured community.

The award-winning film, which spans 24 hours in an overloaded and under-resourced emergency room, also doubled as a social media project through the launch of the Storytelling Project, a crowd-sourced platform aimed at improving patient experience through collective engagement and storytelling. It’s the filmmakers’ hope that such a platform help explicate the problem of under-served patients throughout the United States.

Nicks, visiting from the San Francisco Bay area, will participate in a Q&A hosted by Iowa Public Radio’s Ben Kiefer after the screening.

The event takes place today in the Pomerantz Center’s HNI Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. Organized by FilmScene, this event is free and open to the public.
