Dubuque, Iowa’s strangest son, Bob Bucko Jr., will be playing a free show at Gabe’s on Sunday, January 5. Bohemian Ghost, All Dogs Invited, and William Danger Ford will be filling out the bill.
Bob Bucko Jr. has made a name for himself as one of Iowa’s most prolific avant-garde musicians, releasing dozens of EPs and albums over the last decade. While he’s highly experimental at times — his pieces often delve into other worldly found sound collages — they’re still indebted in some ways to pop song structures, lending a sense of familiarity to otherwise heady concepts.
Bob also runs a small label, Personal Archives, which highlights some of the best of Iowa’s avant-garde, such as Nora Petran and Curt Oren, among others.
If all this talk of the avant-garde doesn’t appeal to you, rest assured, openers All Dogs Invited will be playing sugar-rushed indie rock, Bohemian Ghost will bring some dreamy shoegaze, and William Danger Ford will charm you with his anti-folk songs.
The show starts at Gabe’s at 8 p.m. Donations are strongly suggested, so don’t be “that guy.” Y’know, the guy that doesn’t bring a donation.
