Xiu Xiu and Talk Normal visit KRUI to guest DJ the 3/31 edition of Little Village Live on KRUI

Jamie Stewart’s band has visited Iowa City before, but this was their first Iowa City show with Angela Seo. Here’s the first single off their 2010 release Dear God, I Hate Myself, “Gray Death”

Talk Normal is Andrya Ambro (drums) and Sarah Register (guitar). Here’s “In a Strangeland” off their 2009 release Sugarland.

Xiu Xiu and Talk Normal performed with Tune-Yards and Coyote Slingshot at Gabe’s on Wednesday, one of Mission Creek 2010’s most memorable shows.  Thank you to Jamie, Angela, Sarah and Andrya for visiting our show!

The format is always different from week-to-week on Little Village Live.  This week Chaircrusher, Paul and I invited ourselves into Xiu Xiu and Talk Normal’s ipods, and had a bit of conversation about the kinds of sounds they like to listen to. Here’s what we ended up with:

Jamie and Xiu Xiu had been listening to Slayer in the van and decided to stay dense, leading with Khanate‘s Wings from Spine

Angela Seo’s first pick was Diamanda Galás, Heaven Have Mercy

TN: U.S. Girls, Red Ford Rodeo

XX: The Shangri-las, Give Him a Great Big Kiss

TN: Tall Dwarfs, The Slide

XX: Sounds of North American Frogs, Scream of the Southern Leopard Frog

Curious what's happening this weekend? Sign up here to stay in the know.

Matt: Weird that animals are attracted to distress signals.  I mean does it make them come?

Jamie: Well it might make them breathe heavy.

Matt: Huh?

Jamie: Nothing.

Chaircrusher: Talk Normal, Mosquito

XX: Voices of East Harlem, (We Are) New York Lightning

CC: Xiu Xiu, Chocolate Makes You Happy

Chaircrusher: Band of Susans, The Pursuit of Happiness

Andrya Ambro, Sarah Register, Jamie Stewart, Angela Seo
