Jami Attenberg reading
Prairie Lights – Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m.
Brooklyn-based writer Jami Attenberg will be reading from her most recent novel, The Middlesteins, at Prairie Lights Thursday at 7 p.m.
Through its protagonist, Edie, The Middlesteins tells the story of a woman losing her life-long battle with weight gain. Adding to the stress brought on by her quickly-deteriorating physical condition, Edieโs husband of 30 years leaves her, throwing her even further into her food addiction.
This may sound like a sordid tale, but Attenbergโs darkly-comedic narrative voice and ability to create a cast of provocative characters has kept critics and readers engaged and entertained throughout. The Middlesteins is as much the story of a fractured family coming together during a difficult time as it is an account of one womanโs personal struggles with weight.
Attenberg is also the author of The Kept Man, The Melting Season, and Instant Love. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Salon, and a number of other major publications. More information about this reading and Live from Prairie Lights is available via the Prairie Lights website.
