Club 76 The Lodge, 2349 Mehaffey Bridge Rd NE A, North Liberty — Emma McClatchey/Little Village

By Tony Branch and Ashley Bermel, North Liberty

As our North Liberty community continues to grow rapidly, we are facing increasing demands on our infrastructure and public services. With limited taxable resources and recent changes to state tax policy, our city must find sustainable ways to keep up with this growth. One of the most pressing needs is a fire station suited to provide the appropriate public safety responses and firefighting capabilities for our residents. Did you know that our current fire station canโ€™t house aerial trucks that are needed to reach multi story buildings or doesnโ€™t provide adequate accommodations for firefighters?

The Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) is one of the few tools available to us with local control and is a proven tool that is being utilized by 93 percent of communities in the state of Iowa. It ensures that a small portion of the dollars already being spent in our town, by both residents and visitors, stays here to fund essential services like safe streets, parks, trails, and community amenities. Importantly, LOST does not apply to necessities such as groceries, gas, or medicine.

This measure allows us to invest in the future of North Liberty without placing additional burden on property taxes. It is a practical solution that supports the quality of life we all value.

We encourage our fellow residents to vote YES on the Local Option Sales Tax this November. Let us work together to keep North Liberty safe, strong, and prepared for the future.
