Friday night was another epic evening in Iowa City. Unfortunately there isn’t much here yet from the early short sets from 6-8 pm, Dawn’s at Dusk.
This was actually a highlight of the evening. about 10 different acts, each doing a ten minute set, often with no set up in between, this was a very well-organized event that offered a fabulous variety of talented (mostly solo) acts, culminating with a mind-erasing roar from Alex Body aka Shitty Wizard – there were no merry gnomes out gallivanting, for this was certainly the darkest hour of whatever magical tale Shitty Wizard haunts. Still, as for me, I left totally, completely, very happily … nonplussed.

Meat Puppets wanted to do something special for Iowa City, the Mill and Mission Creek so they decided to bust out the guitar they used when they performed with Nirvana in their legendary appearance on Mtv’s Unplugged. According to their tour manager this is an extremely rare treat – so what an honor! Thanks Meat Puppets, it’s great to know you love us back!
